
Energy Innovations, Entrepreneurship and Green Careers

This course will give students an overview of the innovation and the research-taking place in the field of energy and its applications in the developing green economy. Particular emphasis will be placed on the economic impact of these innovations and the strategies used to secure capital for researching alternative energy solutions. The course consists of two components: Innovations in Energy & related concepts and Entrepreneurship & Green Careers.
The Innovation in Energy will focus on understanding what are innovation and the socio-economic conditions required for any country for innovations. It also emphasis on the various energy storage, energy transmission alternatives and use of information technology that are being researched and practiced. It will also take through the innovations and visions of people for the future of Energy. The industry experts and professors from the field of energy will share their knowledge by way of guest lectures.
The " Entrepreneurship & Green Careers " component will highlight the key components which are essential for any entrepreneur like strategy planning, arranging finance and the measuring the risk involved in the business. Successful entrepreneurs from the clean tech would share their experiences. The course will also include business communication and skill set and education qualification required for Green career.
Career Paths:
This course is intended to expose students to a variety of issues relating to energy policy, ranging from nanotechnology to the carbon cycle in the atmosphere. As the topics will vary based on interest and availability of instructions, there is no single "focus" for the students. This course provides a thorough, but by no means exhaustive, overview of selected topics. Based on the course content and the instruction provided by entrepreneurs in the energy sector, students could conceivably pursue any number of career paths. Examples of possible employers include: the U.S. Institute for Energy Research, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), Silver Springs Networks, Tesla Motors, NASA, or Syngas International.

Dr. Prakash Ambegaonkar is a globally active entrepreneur and philanthropist who has established several internationally competitive high tech companies. He started Bridging Nations Foundation as a nonprofit policy and advocacy organization in Washington, D.C. (2002). In addition to his entrepreneurial work, Dr. Ambegaonkar has been active for many years in philanthropic and policy affairs.
