Foundation Course in Energy IT

Dr. Satyam Priyadarshy

The focus of this course will be on introducing students to emerging technologies in the energy sector, such as Net Centric Architecture, Energy Control Systems and Virtual Metering systems.

This course will introduce students to Scalable and Net Centric Architecture as well as Legacy and Emerging Technologies (e.g. Wireless, Open Source, Web 3.0 and beyond). Students will become familiar with Utility Reporting Systems, Automation, Demand response systems, Energy control systems, Virtual Metering, and Machine to Machine technology for efficient energy usage.

Course will cover topics that include Automatic data collection from utility companies, the aspects of data quality and data integration. How the data is analyzed and multi-level reporting is done ot review consumption across various time frames is done for key performance metrics (like Cost, Usage, etc.)

Web Based Energy Information Systems will be also discussed in this course.

Career Paths:
Students will be able to pursue career in power analytics, one of the fastest growing career in Energy industry. One of the reasons is that increasing more devices in the Smart Grid are being connected to the Internet, thus increasing data collection exponentially. This data needs to analyzed for billing, fraud detection, hacking of smart meters, sustainable usage of energy, among others. Students will be able to use skills and knowledge from this class to analyze big data and become expert at providing insights to the sustainablility business.

Short Bio:
Dr. Satyam Priyadarshy is the CTO of President Solar. He also advises the CEO of Sustainable Star. Prior to that, Dr. Priyadarshy was the Chief Knowledge Officer at Network Solutions and a member of the senior leadership team. He provided strategic leadership to improve products and services. Before moving to Network Solutions,Dr. Priyadarshy led RKR Group, a boutique consulting company, focused on CEOs and CTOs of a variety of public and private Internet and telecom companies. He also previously spent 9 years at AOL, a leading Internet and Media Company in various roles. His last role was Co-Founder and Senior Research Scientist of AOL Research Labs as well as Head of Research Labs-India. Before working at AOL, Dr. Priyadarshy held various scientific and academic positions at Rutgers, University of Pittsburgh, and University of Sydney, Australia. He has been a principal/co-investigator of 7 different high-performance supercomputing research projects.
